Policy: Enhance the central support and funding for amateur sports clubs to empower and inspire our children to be active and improve mental wellbeing.
Explanation: Amateur sports have a wealth of benefits – for health, community, and mental wellness. We want everyone to be able to enjoy these benefits, wherever they live in our five Edinburgh constituencies and whatever their personal circumstances. We will seek measures to support amateur sports in Edinburgh, Leith, and Musselburgh and welcome more proposals on this at our next Annual General Meeting in September.
Policy: Enhance the financial support for carers who are caring for loved ones full-time and are facing financial difficulties as they are unable to work.
Explanation: Many carers are in extreme financial hardship due to being unable to keep working alongside their caring responsibility – sometimes having to resort to using food-banks.
No-one should be penalised for caring for their loved ones. We want to see proper financial support for carers, recognising the huge amount that they do (work which otherwise the state would have to do instead). We will support measures to improve the financial support available.
